I finally (with the help of Laura P.) cast on these socks for our
Crazy Monkey Knit-a-long. The toe is done and I'm moving onto the lace
pattern!

Shell borders.....arg!

Cake decorating at Michael's continues to offer everything that was promised to us. It's really quite delightful. So delightful, in fact, that we were afraid we may get into a fist fight with others girls that were competing for eight coveted spots in Course 2. We made it.

Tonight we learned the shell border. This is the most challenging thing we have done this far. I'm still going to need some practice. Here's Laura at work. The instructor really liked her shell border :o) That's my practice below. It's ok. I need to figure out something else to make a cake for so I can practice. I'll take requests.
That's Laura putting her bang-up shell border on her cake. And it's purple!!!
Laura's cake, shell border and LOTS of drop swirl flowers--my new favorite simple decor for cakes!
My cake. I have a white shell border along the bottom, and some drop flowers. I was really surprised at how easy these flowers are to do.
There will be much more cake decorating to come, now that Laura and I are both enrolled in Course 2. We still have one more week of Course 1--we learn how to do the rose! In Course 2, we learn lots of other flowers in royal icing AND how to do basket weave!
I'll break up these monotonous reports of cake decorating soon! This weekend I will cast on for a sock knit-a-long with some girls that are scattered about! Should be fun!

Cake!

Cake decorating class is really fun! These are pics from our second class, which was the first time we actually got to have some hands-on fun with the frosting!

We started out by learning a little star tipping.... Here's Laura D. practicing her piping.
Look, Mom! I can ice in cursive!
My Valentine's themed cake. Four layers (box cake....) with blackberry jam filling and almond flavored icing. Sent to work with the husband.

Stampin' Up Party

My friend Paula came over today and did a Stampin' Up demonstration. It was a lot of ladies, in a small space, doing A LOT of stamping....but it was really fun. Paula came with three card designs, and of course some of the more creative ladies went out on a whim. We were all outdone by Michelle (see below).
Part I

Part II

Sydney was trying to get a look at the Sale-a-Bration catalog, too. Here's a link to Paula's website. If you "heart" Stampin' Up stuff as much as I do, check it out.

Christmas Cards

As promised, here are the Christmas cards. If I sent you one, and it's not one of these designs, it's an imposter. Be warned!

Crepes!

See--look! I've already posted again and it's been only 5 minutes!

I just wanted to point out a really lovely crepes recipe to anyone who is interested. We have recently started participating in a Supper Club, and the last theme was "A Night in Provence." We were charged with bringing dessert. My husband wanted to make crepes, which was fine. I did all of the prep, including making the batter, but the actual cooking of the crepes was left to my husband, who is much more skilled at things that involve the stove top. Anyway, here's a link for CREPES DE NOIX AUX FRAMBOISE ET FIGUES. The review from "A Cook" in Durham is me!

New Year's Resolution--Blog on the Procrastination Blog

So, here's the thing. This is a blog set up as a tool for procrastination. But, with my carefree non-graduate student life, I just don't have that many things that end up "waiting for tomorrow." So now I feel like the blog has turned into a bit of a responsibility...hence the lack of posts. But at least the lack of posting has been due to me doing fun things, and not killing mouse babies.

But, I'm going to try to be better about posting, especially because I have quite a few crafty endeavors in my life right now.

I've been trying to get my Ravelry page caught up. I recentnly got pictures of this market bag that I finished back in September for my friend Laura D. Also in the works are some baby things (for OTHER people's babies) and a warm and cuddly "shoulder cozy." The shoulder cozy is nearly finished, and I should have pics up soon.

I also promise to put pictures of my Christmas cards up soon. Here's a sample of one that I did with Laura, Jen, and Jessica.

I'm also looking forward to tomorrow, which is my first Wilton Cake Decorating class at Michael's! I don't think we'll do much at the first class, but I will try to remember to post pics of my progress!

Anyway...till next time, happy crafting!
